Divest Notts campaign

DIVEST NOTTS!

Email Nottinghamshire County Council & ask them to divest their pension funds from fossil fuel companies

Dear Friends

This is a simple quick way that you can write to the leader of the County Council, Ben Bradley,  about the £155 million stlll invested in FOSSIL FUELS by the Nottinghamshire Local Government Pension Fund (administered by the County Council)

Click here: https://divestnotts.org  to send the email - and view a short film clip of Ben Bradley making promises about tackling the climate emergency - we have seen NOTHING so far.

Currently the Pension Fund has £155m invested in fossil fuel companies. Incredibly it has no targets for reducing the carbon footprint of its investments. It is not aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C, or anything even close.

Nottinghamshire Pension Fund must adopt ambitious climate targets to keep 1.5° alive.

On the eve COP 26 and before the next Pension Fund Committee on 4th November, Divest Notts is trying to get 300 emails sent demanding action. So please share this message with everyone who might agree to take part

Climate March at Southwell

You would be very welcome to come along and join in

More information at GreenSouthwell

From the organisers:
For those who don't know Southwell - the Burgage is a green space at the opposite end of the shopping area from the Minster. It can be found here: https://goo.gl/maps/jdgKGwTTzSyrAMNw7

We are working out what happens when we get to the Minster - there will likely be a few words to draw the event to a close, and point to next steps.
We will be holding a second event later in the month where we discuss individual action. We want strong and fair climate leadership and to help each other make the difference we can make as individuals.

Finally, our kind and supportive hosts at the Minster are holding a Craft Fair that day to which you are very welcome. We hope to be hosting a stall or display of the 'leaves' used in the March at the Fair so again, if you have any material you want shared to a wider audience in the area, please let us know. We will be using posters and/or a noticeboard that people can take a photo of, rather than handouts.

Climate Bill

 Please support the Climate Bill

DEMAND THE GOVERNMENT BACK CLIMATE PLEDGES WITH LEGISLATION

Two years ago, on 1 May 2019, the UK Parliament declared a Climate and Environment Emergency.

Since then, politicians have drawn up new targets, including at least a 68% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, made promises to protect 30% of our land by 2030 and signed pledges including the Leaders’ Pledge for Nature.

Yet despite these pledges and promises, we remain way off track.

To change this, we need more than just promises. We need new, ambitious climate and nature law – we need the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill.

Support our demand that the UK Government back up their climate and nature pledges with up-to-date, ambitious legislation.

We cannot afford to wait another two years. Please sign the petition.
